These designs are based on the nine choirs of angels as proposed by Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite, and on the visions of Saint Hildegard of Bingen.
The Principality is the guardian of a community and his design reflects this mission. The shape of the head is reminiscent of a medieval knight’s helmet, and the projection on the right side of the figure mimics the shape of hands resting on a sword or shield. The central body is a smooth form interrupted by two folds in its lower half, as if the figure were covered by a cloak. The folds also simulate irregularities such as those found on the surface of the Balancing Rock in Nova Scotia, an effect that is reinforced by the texture of the shadow on the lower part of the folds. All these elements form a strong, immovable figure, a guardian made of stone.
